How to Register an Asset
Add new equipment, devices, or IoT sensors to your Infodeck asset inventory.
Quick Summary
Click Create Asset, select an asset type, choose a location, fill in details, then click Create.
Before You Begin
- You must have assets:create permission
- At least one Asset Type must exist
- At least one Location must exist
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Open the Asset Form
- From the left sidebar, click Asset
- Click the Create Asset button (blue button with + icon) in the top right
Step 2: Select Asset Type
- Click the Asset Type dropdown
- Choose the type that matches your equipment
- If you need a new type, click Create Asset Type to add one
Asset type determines whether this is a Physical Asset or an IoT Device. IoT devices will show additional fields for UUID and integration service.
Step 3: Choose Location
- Click the Location dropdown
- Select where this asset is located
- If the location doesn't exist, click Create Location to add it
Step 4: Enter Asset Information
Fill in the basic details:

Step 5: Add Equipment Details (Optional)

Step 6: Link Related Assets (Optional)
To associate this asset with another:
- Click the Associated to dropdown
- Search for and select related assets
- This creates a parent-child relationship visible in asset details
Step 7: Upload Attachments (Optional)
Add supporting documents:
- Click Upload in the Files section
- Select files (manuals, certificates, photos)
- Files are stored and accessible from the asset profile
Step 8: Create the Asset
- Review all entered information
- Click the Create button
- The asset is added to your inventory
You'll see "Asset created successfully" and the new asset appears in your list.
IoT Device Registration
For IoT-connected devices, additional fields appear:

| Active Timeout | No | Minutes of inactivity before marking device inactive (min 10 minutes) |
The UUID is typically found on the device label, in the manufacturer documentation, or in your LoRaWAN network server console. It may be called "Device EUI" or "DevEUI".

Real-World Examples
Example 1: Register an HVAC Unit
Situation: You need to add a new air conditioning unit installed in the conference room.
Solution:
- Click Create Asset
- Asset Type: Select "HVAC Unit" (or create if not exists)
- Location: Select "Building A > Floor 2 > Conference Room 101"
- Name:

- Warranty End Date: 2 years from purchase
- Upload the installation certificate
- Click Create
Result: The HVAC unit is now tracked in Infodeck. You can create work orders against it and track its maintenance history.
Example 2: Register a Temperature Sensor
Situation: You've installed a new LoRaWAN temperature sensor in the server room.
Solution:
- Click Create Asset
- Asset Type: Select "Temperature Sensor" (must be IoT-enabled type)
- Location: Select "Data Center > Server Room A"
- Name:

A81758FFFE0ABCDE(from device label) - Integration Service: Select your LoRaWAN network server
- Active Timeout:
30minutes (alerts if no data for 30 min) - Click Create
Result: The sensor starts appearing in your IoT dashboard. You can view real-time temperature data and set up alerts for when values exceed thresholds.
Example 3: Register Equipment with Full Documentation
Situation: You're registering a new elevator for compliance tracking.
Solution:
- Click Create Asset
- Asset Type: Select "Elevator"
- Location: Select "Building A > Elevator Shaft 1"
- Name:

Result: Complete elevator documentation is centralized. Compliance officers can access all certificates, and maintenance teams know the equipment specifications.
