Asset Types
Define asset categories to organize your equipment, devices, and facilities. Each asset type can have custom properties to capture specific information.

Go to Settings → Asset Type to create categories for your assets with custom fields.
Before You Begin
- You need an active subscription
- You must have permission to manage asset types
Accessing Asset Types
- Click the Settings () icon at the bottom of the sidebar
- Under Asset Management, click Asset Type
- The asset type management page displays
Understanding Asset Types
Asset types help you:
- Categorize equipment by function (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing)
- Define custom fields specific to each category
- Standardize data collection across your organization
- Filter and report on assets by type
Examples of Asset Types

Creating an Asset Type
Step 1: Open the Create Dialog
- Click the Create Asset Type button
- The asset type form opens
Step 2: Enter Basic Information

| Name | Yes | Name for this category (max 128 characters, e.g., "HVAC Unit") |
| Description | No | Description of your asset type (max 256 characters, e.g., "Asset type to monitor the air quality") |
Step 3: Add Custom Properties
Custom properties let you capture type-specific information:
- Click Add Property
- Enter the property name (e.g., "Capacity")
- Select the property type:
- Text — Free-form text entry
- Number — Numeric values
- Date — Date picker
- Select — Dropdown with predefined options
- Configure additional options if needed
- Repeat for each property
Step 4: Save the Asset Type
- Review your settings
- Click Save
Your new asset type is now available when creating assets.
Managing Asset Types
View All Asset Types
The asset types list shows:
- Type name
- Number of custom properties
- Created/Updated date
Edit an Asset Type
- Find the asset type in the list
- Click to open the edit dialog
- Modify the name or properties
- Click Save
Editing an asset type affects how existing assets display their data. Removing properties may hide existing data.
View Asset Type Details
You can also access asset type settings via URL:
- Navigate to a specific type using
?assetTypeId=[id]in the URL

Property Types

Property Options
For Select-type properties, define the available choices:
- Add the property as type "Select"
- Enter each option value
- Users will see a dropdown when editing assets
Real-World Examples
Example 1: HVAC Equipment Type
Situation: You manage multiple air conditioning units across buildings.
Solution:
- Go to Settings → Asset Type
- Click Create Asset Type
- Enter name: "HVAC Unit"
- Add custom properties:
- Capacity (Number) — BTU rating
- Filter Size (Text) — Filter dimensions
- Refrigerant Type (Select) — R-410A, R-22, R-32
- Last Service Date (Date)
- Click Save
Result: When adding HVAC assets, users see these specific fields.
Example 2: Fire Safety Equipment
Situation: You need to track fire extinguishers with inspection dates.
Solution:
- Create asset type: "Fire Extinguisher"
- Add properties:
- Type (Select) — ABC, CO2, Water
- Expiry Date (Date)
- Inspection Due (Date)
- Location Code (Text)
- Save the asset type
Result: All fire safety equipment is tracked with compliance dates.
Example 3: IT Equipment
Situation: Your IT team needs to track computers and servers.
Solution:
- Create asset type: "Computer / Server"
- Add properties:
- Serial Number (Text)
- RAM (Number) — in GB
- Storage (Number) — in TB
- OS Version (Text)
- Warranty End (Date)
- Save the asset type
Result: IT assets are cataloged with technical specifications.
Using Asset Types
When Creating Assets
- Go to Assets → Create Asset
- Select the Asset Type from the dropdown
- The form displays custom properties for that type
- Fill in the standard and custom fields
- Save the asset
Filtering by Asset Type
- Go to Assets
- Use the Asset Type filter
- View only assets of that category
Troubleshooting
Can't Create Asset Type
